Cambodia will purchase additional 8 million COVID-19 vaccines from China. [Global Network Report] According to news from the Cambodia-China Times on the 8th, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Cambodia, Ruo Soong Ban, revealed that Cambodia has purchased another 8 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines from China, of which 2 million will arrive in the middle of this month.
According to the report, on the morning of the 8th local time, 1 million doses of Chinese COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Phnom Penh, of which 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine were donated by China to Cambodia, and another 500,000 doses of Kexing vaccine were purchased by Cambodia from China. Ruo Soongban revealed to the media when he was received at the airport that Cambodia had ordered an additional 8 million doses of vaccines from China, including 4 million doses of Kexing vaccine and 4 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine.
The report also stated that Ruosongban stated that 1 million doses of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccines will arrive on June 12, and another batch of 1 million doses of Kexing’s COVID-19 vaccine will arrive on June 19. The remaining 6 million doses will arrive one after another.
According to the report, Ruosongban said that China has become Cambodia’s most important and safest vaccine supplier, helping Cambodia build a herd immunity barrier. She said that in addition to the first batch of 324,000 doses of vaccine donated by the WHO COVAX mechanism, Cambodia is still waiting for more vaccines to be distributed by the COVAX mechanism. In addition, Cambodia has also applied to Australia and the United States for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines including Johnson & Johnson, but has yet to receive a response.
The report also mentioned that as of June 8, the total number of vaccines received in Cambodia has reached 7.024 million doses. Among them, China’s Sinopharm vaccine totals 2.2 million doses, China Kexing vaccine totals 4.5 million doses, and CovidShield totals 324,000 doses.
