1. Study finds: skip dinner or gain weight faster
Does skipping dinner really help you lose weight? A new study shatters that claim. A study published in Nutrients found that skipping dinner was a significant contributor to weight gain .
The study included more than 20,000 college students who had undergone physical examinations from Osaka University in Japan, and found through an average 3-year observation period:
Males
Among the boys who often skipped dinner, 14.7% gained ≥10% body weight.
Females
22.9% of women who skipped dinner regularly had a weight gain of ≥10%.
After removing some confounding factors, the researchers found a higher risk of weight gain. For men and women who often skipped dinner, the risk of weight gain increased to 45% and 67%, respectively, and the risk of overweight and obesity increased to 74% and 68%, respectively.
The researchers analyzed that there may be three reasons why skipping dinner may increase the weight: increased appetite, followed by more eating; poor diet quality, higher body mass index; biological clock factors.
2. If you don’t eat dinner, there may be 4 consequences waiting for you
Maybe some people can really achieve the goal of losing weight by insisting on not eating late for a long time.
But this kind of extreme weight loss method, the consequences that follow may be unbearable…
1. Decreased body resistance
The various organs of the human body need nutrients to provide energy.
If you don’t eat dinner for a long time, the body will lack the nutritional energy it needs, and the body’s resistance will become worse and worse .
2. Injury to the spleen and stomach
Just like the case at the beginning, Xiao Li suffered from gastric ulcer after not eating dinner for a long time.
If the condition is not controlled, it is likely to be further transformed into gastric cancer . It can be seen that skipping dinner will bring huge damage to the stomach and cause a series of diseases.
3. Decreased brain function
For people who often skip dinner, their organ functions cannot keep up, which naturally includes brain function.
People who do not eat dinner will gradually experience memory loss, brain development delay, mental decline, and inability to concentrate .
4. Increase the risk of gallstones
Gallstone disease is also associated with skipping dinner. The gallbladder secretes bile to promote the digestion and absorption of food.
If the gallbladder is in a fasting state for a long time, the gallbladder will not contract, and the cholesterol concentration in the bile increases, which cannot be emptied normally, and is prone to precipitation and calcification .
