Thailand provides 1 million free cannabis plants to encourage home cultivation.
The Thai government will provide 1 million cannabis plants free of charge to households across the country in June this year to encourage Thais to grow cannabis at home, Health Minister Anutin Chanveraku announced.
Cannabis advocates in Thailand believe that allowing families to grow cannabis at home will help the largely agricultural country boost its economic recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Is the government going to distribute marijuana to the public? Yes, there is nothing wrong, it is true.
According to a report by CNN on May 11, the Thai government will distribute 1 million cannabis plants for free to households across the country in June this year, to encourage Thais to stay at home grow cannabis.
It follows the kingdom’s decision in January to allow citizens to grow cannabis at home after notifying local authorities. However, Thailand stipulates that the cultivation of this plant can only be used for medical purposes and cannot be sold commercially without the proper license. The new rules will take effect on June 9.

“This will enable people and the government to earn more than 10 billion baht a year from cannabis,” said Health Minister Chan Weeraku. “People can show their wits about cannabis and cannabis-related products and sell their products nationwide,” he added, urging Thais to grow as many cannabis plants as possible.
While most of Thailand’s neighbors have strict drug laws, in 2018, Thailand became the first South Asian country to legalize medical marijuana.
Since then, it has been legal to sell cannabis products with less than 0.2% THC in Thailand. THC is a psychoactive compound in cannabis. Recreational drug use is still illegal in this country.
