Protective Face Shield
Protective Face Shield is recommended in high risk environment and used with face mask to provide more protection from infection on eyes or skin.
However, it's not the replacement of wearing mask. Mask should be a must for fighting COVID-19, face shield just as extra protective measure.
- Face Shield is mainly used to protect the eyes of the wearer. It is not yet clear to what extent the Face Shield can protect nearby people from the droplets emitted by the wearer. There is also insufficient evidence to support the effectiveness of using Face Shield for disease control. Therefore, U.S. CDC does not currently recommend the use of Face Shield instead of masks.
- But for some people, such as those who are deaf or hard of hearing, or those who take care of or interact with the hearing impaired, wearing a mask may not be feasible under certain circumstances. For individuals who must wear a Face Shield instead of a mask, there are a few things to note:
- Although the evidence on Face Shield is limited, available data indicate that the following Face Shield may provide better disease control than other face masks:
- The Face Shield wraps around the wearer's face and extends below the chin.
- Hooded Face Shield.
- Wearers of Face Shield should wash their hands before and after removing Face Shield and avoid contact with eyes, nose and mouth when removing the mask.
- Disposable Face Shield can only be used once and should be disposed of according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Reusable Face Shield should be cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions after each use, or follow CDC's mask cleaning instructions .
- It is not recommended to use plastic protective Face Shield for newborns and infants.
