Fukushima Prefecture’s “Sanriku and Joban Products” to be Promoted in Vietnam in February Next Year – Reconstruction Minister Aims for Effective Outreach
In an effort to strengthen measures against public apprehension surrounding the ocean release of treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the Reconstruction Agency will organize an event in Vietnam in February next year to promote the appeal of Fukushima-produced seafood, including “Sanriku and Joban Products.” Reconstruction Minister Pinoko Tsuchiya disclosed this in interviews with various media outlets, including the Fukushima Minpo newspaper, on the 13th.
Taking into account factors such as the resumption of international charter flights connecting Fukushima Airport and Vietnam on the 6th of this month, after a hiatus of approximately three years and seven months, expectations for an increase in inbound tourists to Fukushima Prefecture led to the decision to hold the event in Vietnam. From February 2nd to 4th next year, booths will be set up in shopping malls in Vietnam to sell processed products of “Sanriku and Joban Products” and products from disaster-stricken areas, emphasizing their deliciousness and high quality. There will also be exhibits, including panels explaining the scientific safety of treated water.
A similar event will be held in a Thai shopping mall from January 12th to 14th next year. Although a similar event was conducted in Thailand earlier this year in January, they plan to offer new processed products of “Sanriku and Joban Products.”
In Japan, from February to March next year, multiple restaurants in Tokyo’s Ginza district will offer menus featuring “Sanriku and Joban Products.”
Reconstruction Minister Tsuchiya expressed, “We aim to engage in top sales in overseas markets and host events and fairs in major consumer regions to effectively promote local products and the charm of the Sanriku and Joban regions.”
