China summarizes COVID-19 vaccines development

China summarizes COVID-19 vaccines development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China summarizes China’s COVID-19 vaccine research and development On November 18, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked that multinational companies have made new progress in the research and development of COVID-19 pneumonia vaccines recently. Several companies in China are also conducting clinical trials of vaccines in multiple countries. Can the spokesperson provide more information? In addition, how is China’s participation in international vaccine cooperation progress?

Zhao Lijian responded, thanking you for your attention to the development of vaccine research and development of relevant Chinese companies. Vaccines are a powerful weapon against the new coronavirus.

The progress of China’s vaccine research and development can be summarized by two “5”s:

The first “5”

since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pneumonia, the Chinese government has laid out 5 technical routes for the first time, inactivated vaccines, recombinant protein vaccines, adenovirus vector vaccines, attenuated influenza virus vector vaccines and nucleic acid vaccines, in a standardized and orderly manner Carry out research and development cooperation;

The second “5”

China has 5 vaccines in the UAE, Brazil, Pakistan, Peru and other countries to carry out Phase III clinical trials, and many other vaccines are stepping up the phase I and Phase II clinical trials.

Zhao Lijian said that China’s vaccine research and development units and the majority of scientific research workers, in strict accordance with scientific laws and regulatory requirements, go all out to promote vaccine research and development day and night, and have made hard work for this. Like everyone, I look forward to hearing the good news from them as soon as possible.

When referring to international vaccine cooperation, Zhao Lijian pointed out that the Chinese government and companies have been actively participating in international vaccine cooperation through bilateral and multilateral channels.

In addition to cooperating with relevant countries on vaccine research and development, China also maintains close communication and cooperation with international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, and the Alliance for Epidemic Prevention Innovation. It has joined the World Health Organization’s “Global Cooperation to Accelerate Development, Production, and Equity The initiative to obtain new tools for the prevention and control of COVID-19 and the “Solidarity Project” international multi-center clinical trial.

China has also joined the “COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan” to promote equitable distribution of vaccines, to ensure that vaccines are provided to developing countries, and to encourage more capable countries to support the “implementation plan.”

China expects that China’s vaccines can be included in the procurement list of the implementation plan as soon as possible after the research and development of vaccines are completed, and make its own contribution to the realization of the availability and affordability of vaccines in developing countries.
