Dietary Creatine Found to Alleviate Long-COVID Symptoms, Reveals Clinical Trial.
Dietary Creatine as popular dietary supplements have been discovered to alleviate symptoms of Long-COVID.
Creatine, a natural compound found in muscle cells and a crucial amino acid for brain and muscle health, is commonly used as a supplement to enhance exercise performance and promote muscle growth.
It plays a key role in cellular energy production during short, intense physical activities.
Supplementing with creatine is one of the most extensively researched interventions in sports science, consistently showing improvements in athletic performance.
A new clinical trial published in the “Food Science & Nutrition” journal suggests that dietary creatine may also assist individuals suffering from post-COVID-19 fatigue syndrome, commonly known as Long-COVID.
In the trial, 12 Long-COVID patients were randomly assigned to either a daily placebo or 4 grams of creatine monohydrate for a period of 6 months. At the 3-month and 6-month follow-ups, creatine intake led to a significant increase in creatine levels in leg muscles and the brain.
After 3 months of creatine supplementation, overall fatigue sensation notably decreased. Furthermore, at the 6-month follow-up, scores related to Long-COVID symptoms, including reduced taste sensation, breathlessness, generalized muscle pain, headaches, and difficulty concentrating, also showed significant improvements.
Sergej M. Ostojic, the corresponding author and a medical doctor at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, stated, “Recognizing creatine’s potential in addressing this epidemic is significant, but further research is needed to confirm our findings across various cohorts of post-COVID-19 individuals.”
