China News Service, Toronto, December 7 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) When the COVID-19 epidemic is too slow to subdue, the Canadian government sent a “resting pill” on December 7 to announce that it will obtain the first batch of 249,000 doses of COVID-19 virus vaccine within this month.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the media in Ottawa that the country is about to launch “the largest ever” vaccination campaign.

The vaccine is a new coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. The Canadian government emphasized that the prerequisite for vaccine delivery and vaccination is that the vaccine must be approved by the Canadian Ministry of Health.

Pfizer, the Canadian Public Health Agency, the Canadian military, and various provinces and regions are cooperating to complete the preparations for the first point of use within this week, including training on how to handle the vaccine. 14 vaccine distribution centers have been established nationwide.

Canadian officials have pre-ordered up to 76 million doses of this vaccine. The 249,000 doses of vaccine that arrived early will also arrive in Canada in batches. These vaccines are expected to be given priority to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and staff living in long-term care facilities, and the specifics are planned by the provinces themselves. This vaccine needs to be vaccinated twice.

However, the vaccine must be transported and stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius. Trudeau acknowledged that the requirements for the cold chain are a big challenge.

The Canadian federal government has purchased 126 special freezers for storing vaccines, including 26 freezers that can store ultra-low temperature vaccines. Currently, 9 ultra-low temperature freezers have arrived.

Pfizer submitted an application for approval of the vaccine to the Canadian Ministry of Health on October 9. The Canadian government recently stated that the approval results are expected to be announced soon. In addition, three vaccines from AstraZeneca, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are also awaiting approval by the Canadian government.

The head of the German Biotech Company recently told the Canadian media that once the vaccine is approved in Canada, it will be shipped within 24 hours.

The Canadian government has so far pre-purchased approximately 414 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from many pharmaceutical companies around the world.

As of the evening of December 7, Canada has reported a total of more than 423,000 cases, nearly 339,000 recovered, 12,777 deaths, and 71,542 active cases.
