Apple Google: COVID-19 Tracking APP Launched in California

Apple Google: COVID-19 Tracking APP Launched in California . The COVID-19 contact tracking program “CA Notify” developed by Apple and Google officially launched in California.

According to reports, after a month of testing on the university campus, California Governor Newsom announced that on Thursday, December 10th, US time, his COVID-19 virus contact tracking application will be released to the public. The app is called CA Notify, and its release makes California the 18th state to publish a contact tracking app (including Washington, DC). Users of the program will be alerted if they come into contact with someone who has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The technology of this application is jointly developed by Google and Apple. Previously, the program has been piloted at several universities in California, including UCLA, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Davis, and Berkeley.

This app uses the contact tracking API that was added to iOS and Android in May. It requires a Bluetooth low energy phone with iOS 14.2 or Android 6.0 and above. As long as it is within Bluetooth range, your phone will automatically exchange a key with other phones. (The key does not contain location or any personal identification information.) When someone tests positive for Covid-19, they can press a button to send a notification to everyone who uses the app to let them know that they should be tested and quarantined. If you are concerned about privacy issues, then the exposure notice will not contain any information about who was exposed to the virus, when and where it happened. The notification will only say that you have been exposed to the virus.

Apple and Google disclosed the basic framework of the tracking program 7 months ago. Newsom said the tool will be the key to supporting California’s case tracking work. At the same time, the number of people hospitalized in California due to the COVID-19 virus has exceeded 10,000, which is by far the largest number of hospitalizations.

Apple CEO Tim Cook and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai expressed their support for the app on Twitter:
