Deena Hinshaw in the statement that out of respect for the privacy of the victim and his family, he would not provide more information.
She pointed out that Albertans aged between 50 and 59 who were diagnosed with the infection had a 350 times higher rate of dying from new coronavirus pneumonia compared to blood clots caused by AstraZeneca vaccination; 1,500 times. Among the more than 253,000 doses of AstraZeneca received in Alberta, the above woman is only the second confirmed case of immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia in the province.
Quebec announced its first thrombosis-related death on April 27. A 54-year-old Quebec woman, Francine Boyer, died of a thrombotic reaction after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. She was the first death in the country related to vaccination.
