Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine needs to be stored at -70 ℃, Medical insitutions of the United States are rushing to buy refrigeration equipment.
On November 14, Reuters reported that states, cities and hospitals in the United States began to compete to purchase ultra-low temperature refrigeration equipment to safely store the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer.
The COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer needs to be stored at -70°C, which is far lower than the standard of 2 to 8°C for other vaccines.
Moderna has also announced the effectiveness of its vaccine. The storage conditions for the vaccine are relatively easy, requiring a storage temperature of -20°C.
A CDC spokesperson said on November 12 that the agency estimates that the first batch of vaccines will be limited and will be put into use quickly, thereby reducing the need to store vaccines in special cold storage.
Pfizer said on November 9 that the COVID-19 vaccine developed in cooperation with the German biotech company BioNTech was more than 90% effective in clinical phase III trials.
This makes people’s attention turn to the vaccine transportation and warehousing logistics issues that ultimately need to be faced.
Many refrigerator manufacturers have received attention and are currently increasing their labor force and expanding production capacity.
Some professional cold chain manufacturers said that the supply still needs to wait several months.
