Fibroadenomas are the most common benign breast tumors, and most do not increase the risk of breast cancer. This is a fibroadenoma that includes one or more of the following benign factors: cysts larger than 3 mm, sclerosing adenopathy, epithelial calcification or changes in papillary apocrine glands. Closely related to fibroadenoma is adenoma, which is clearly composed of glandular tissue. These tumors are very rare, but they tend to affect young women. They may develop in breast tissue or nipples. Sometimes they occur during or after pregnancy.
