Omicron’s new variant of IHU, a distant relative, has a large number of mutations 2 features named.

Scientists discovered a new variant of the virus B.1.640.2 in southern France, named IHU, described as a distant relative of Omicron.

This variant strain carries a total of 46 mutations, of which 2 mutations will make the virus more infectious and capable Resistant to vaccines, but scientists also pointed out that it is not yet clear that IHU will defeat Omicron and become a mainstream mutant.

The British “Daily Mail” reported that the research team of the French Marseilles Mediterranean Infection Research Center (IHU Mediterranee Infection) published the latest research that has not been peer reviewed on December 29 on the medical research paper preprint platform medRxiv.

They are in the south The COVID-19 mutant B.1.640.2 was found in the Marseille area and named it “IHU”.

The study pointed out that IHU has 46 kinds of mutations, of which 2 mutations are the most worrying to scientists. They are E484K and N501Y.

The former will make the virus more resistant to vaccines, and the latter will make the virus more infectious. It was first discovered in the United Kingdom. The Alpha mutant strain of has this mutation.

The report described IHU as a “distant relative” of Omicron, because scientists believe that IHU is more likely to evolve from other variant viruses.

There is no sign that IHU will defeat Omicron, which dominates the French epidemic. At this stage, more than 60% of cases in France are Omicron. Omicron carries a total of 50 mutations.

The study pointed out that a total of 12 cases of IHU have been detected in the Marseille region so far.

The first case was imported from Cameroon, an African country. It was initially detected in early December 2021. However, IHU has not spread rapidly there, and other countries have not yet Notify related cases.

The study pointed out that these observations once again show the unpredictability of the emergence of new coronavirus variants and the migration from abroad, indicating how difficult it is to control and suppress the spread of the virus.
