In Jalan Red Hill Block 2, where the TB cluster appeared, 574 of the 749 people were tested for TB. Of the 574 people, about 30% had positive blood test results.

The Ministry of Singapore Health issued a statement on Friday night (June 24) on the latest situation of the infection cluster.  Authorities must conduct further testing to determine whether these people are infected with TB or have active TB disease.

Those with active TB will receive treatment, while those with latent TB will be referred to the TB Control Unit of Tan Tock Seng Hospital for follow-up visits, depending on the situation.

The Ministry of Health has also identified another case linked to this cluster through whole genome sequencing and is investigating close contacts of this case.

The Ministry of Health was notified on March 2 this year of a total of seven cases of tuberculosis in Jalan Red Hill Block 2, and the authorities provided a round of non-mandatory tuberculosis testing from May 27 to 31. Residents who require further testing will also have on-site chest X-rays.

Free one more round of TB testing

There are 175 people in the HDB who have yet to be tested. The Ministry of Health yesterday and today offered one more round of TB testing and chest X-rays free of charge to those who live or work in this HDB flat.

This includes past and current residents of the flat, as well as coffee shop owners, shop owners and staff.

Under the Communicable Diseases Act, people who have not been tested must undergo this round of testing. Those who are asked to undergo further testing must also complete those tests.

The testing center is located at the Residents Committee Center of Fushan District, Queenstown, Block 3, Jalan Red Hill. Residents who were unable to get tested yesterday and today can get tested at the Sundar Community Health Agency (SATA) at Potong Pasir Medical Center at the latest on August 5.

Staff from the National Centre for Infectious Diseases also visited HDB flats that had not been tested for TB as required to urge residents to get tested.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the risk of contracting the disease is low for people who have had brief contact with a TB case.

Therefore, members of the public who occasionally visit Jalan Red Hill Block 2 or nearby neighbourhoods do not have to be screened.

Tuberculosis is endemic locally, with a prevalence of 29% among people aged 70 to 79. People with TB have no symptoms and are not contagious.

Symptoms of TB include cough, low-grade fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss, and chest pain that last for three weeks or more.

The Ministry of Health also said: “TB is curable and the spread of TB is preventable. Early detection and prompt treatment are still important to help infected people and make them no longer infectious. People diagnosed with TB are still important. , adherence to treatment is also important.”
