China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has urged rescuers not to give up hope and to continue to intensify a comprehensive search for the 47 people missing in a coal mine collapse in the northern Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

On February 24, China’s Ministry of Emergency Management said the number of victims of a coal mine collapse two days ago in the town of Alxa, north of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has increased. 6 people, while 47 others are still missing .
Rescuers were able to pull the bodies of six victims out of the rubble. In addition, six injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Department of Emergency Management urged rescuers not to give up hope and continue to step up their all-out efforts to find the missing.
Earlier, on February 23, the Ministry of Emergency Management of China stated that it had dispatched 4 national rescue teams of 109 people, carrying multiple professional rescue equipment, to assist in the rescue of the collapsed coal mine.
According to Xinhua News Agency, as of 6 a.m. on February 23 (local time), more than 900 people participated in the rescue.
The working group under the Ministry of Emergency Management emphasized that rescuing the missing remains the top priority, but efforts must also be made to prevent the coal mine collapse from causing other disasters.
The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is one of the largest coal-producing regions in China. There have been mining accidents in China. Most recently, in December 2022, an underground gold mine in Xinjiang, in the northwest of the country, collapsed while about 40 workers were working.
In 2021, a flood occurred in a coal mine in Shanxi Province, killing 2 miners and rescued 20 people.
