Australian research has found the key cause of scar formation. New research brings hope to reducing skin scars.

According to news from Sydney on May 12, Australian researchers recently published a paper in the British journal Nature Communications, stating that they have found the key cause of scar formation, which brings hope to reducing human skin scars.

Professor Kiaras Hoslutrani of the University of Queensland, who led the study, said that the human body’s natural response to trauma is that a large number of blood vessels absorb oxygen and nutrients to repair the wound. After the wound is healed, many of the blood vessels will form into Fibroblasts, these cells produce collagen to form scar material.

Horslutrani said that through animal experiments, vascular stem cells are the key to scar formation and determine whether blood vessels are preserved or form scar material. Turning off a specific gene called SOX9 will stop the process of vascular stem cells forming scar material.

After the researchers confirmed the molecular mechanism of scar formation, they used small molecule interference ribonucleic acid technology to prevent the expression of the SOX9 gene and successfully reduced the formation of scars in animals.

Although further experiments are needed to verify the effects of the above findings on the human body, the researchers believe that on the basis of this research, it is expected to find ways to help reduce the formation of human scars.
