A two-month-old baby boy in China has passed away 40 hours after receiving vaccinations, prompting suspicions from the family that the administered hepatitis B and polio vaccines may be linked to the tragedy.

According to vaccination records, the manufacturer of hepatitis B vaccine is Aimei Vaccine, and the manufacturer of polio vaccine is Beijing Biotech. The Chinese Health Commission has confirmed the incident and is awaiting the results of the autopsy.

On October 25th, Mr. Wu from Hubei sought media attention to bring proper awareness and answers to his family’s tragedy.

Mr. Wu informed reporters that on the 2nd of this month, his wife took their less-than-two-month-old son for hepatitis B and polio vaccinations, with no apparent issues that evening.

However, on the afternoon of October 26th, the baby became restless and refused to sleep. When the family inquired with the hospital, they were told it was “normal” and not necessary to seek medical attention unless the baby had a high fever.

By the early hours of the 4th, Mr. Wu’s wife discovered that the baby had stopped breathing, and at that time, Mr. Wu was working in another city, unable to see his child one last time.

Mr. Wu revealed that he had contacted the local Health Commission and filed a report at the police station but has yet to receive a satisfactory response.

When local reporters contacted the Hubei Health Commission for verification, officials stated that there was a disagreement between the parties.

Mr. Wu suggested that the cause of the child’s death may be related to the vaccines, but the disease control center responsible for vaccine administration claimed the products were qualified. The resolution of responsibility awaits the results of the autopsy.

Autopsy results typically take around 30 working days and cost 35,000 Chinese yuan (approximately US$4,891). The hospital involved has advanced the funds, and the final decision on who will bear the cost depends on the determination of responsibility.

On November 20, the reporter learned from the baby boy’s father that the autopsy report has been released. The report shows: “The identified person Wu Moumou (baby boy) died of respiratory and circulatory dysfunction caused by interstitial pneumonia after vaccination (hepatitis B and inactivated polio vaccine) .
