Global Alarm: New COVID-19 Isolation Orders Issued Amidst Rising Infections
Countries worldwide report a drastic increase in virus levels detected in sewage, hinting at a new wave of infections in North America.
Some Asian nations have already reinstated restrictive measures. Meanwhile, scientists are raising concerns about a new variant, JN.1, with a specific affinity for the gastrointestinal tract.
In the latest development, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has declared the reactivation of COVID-19 isolation policies due to a surge in domestic cases on December 19.
According to the recent announcement, individuals displaying COVID-19 symptoms and testing positive will be required to undergo a 5-day home quarantine, starting from the onset of symptoms.
The Malaysian Health Ministry will issue home isolation orders through an official epidemic prevention app, and patients must complete a health assessment. In addition to home isolation, positive cases are advised to avoid crowded places and contact with high-risk individuals for the 10 days following confirmation.
Data reveals a nearly 20-fold increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Johor state of Malaysia over the past two weeks. The Malaysian Health Minister disclosed that from December 10 to 16, there were 20,696 new confirmed cases nationwide, representing a 60% increase from the previous week.
Interestingly, on the same day, the Singaporean Ministry of Health reinstated daily pandemic reports and recommended the public to resume mask-wearing. While initially hesitant, the Malaysian Health Ministry quickly followed suit, implementing restrictions shortly after. It appears that this wave of infections is indeed formidable.
