Turkey will urgently purchase COVID-19 vaccines from China

Turkey will urgently purchase COVID-19 vaccines from China. Turkish Foreign Minister Chavusoglu said that Turkey believes that China’s vaccines are safe and effective and has announced that it will urgently purchase from China and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in this regard.

On December 14, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Chavusoglu at an appointment.

Chavushoglu congratulated China on its successful control of the epidemic and highly appreciated China’s achievements in vaccine research and development. Cha said that Turkey believes that China’s vaccines are safe and effective, and has announced that it will urgently purchase from China and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in this regard. The Turkish side hopes to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and China next year as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with China and improve the level of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi said that since the beginning of this year, China and Turkey have joined hands in fighting the epidemic and have carried out fruitful cooperation in the provision of medical supplies, sharing of anti-epidemic experience, and the third phase of clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine. At present, the second wave of the epidemic is spreading globally, and China is willing to stand firmly with the Turkish people until the Turkish side finally completely defeats the epidemic.

Turkey’s decision to purchase Chinese vaccines reflects its trust in China. China is willing to provide necessary assistance to Turkey in accordance with laws and regulations. Both sides should solemnly commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, deepen political mutual trust and cooperation in various fields, and push China-Turkey relations to a new level.

Wang Yi said that political mutual trust is the foundation of the strategic cooperative relationship between the two countries. The two heads of state have exchanged views on this on many occasions, emphasizing mutual understanding and mutual support on issues involving core interests and major concerns. China and Turkey share common concerns in combating terrorism and maintaining national security and stability.

The two sides should oppose the politicization and instrumentalization of anti-terrorism issues and the use of “double standards” on anti-terrorism issues. The “Eastern Iraqi Movement” is an international terrorist organization recognized by the UN Security Council, and it is the international obligation of all countries to combat the “Eastern Iraqi Movement”. China is willing to carry out more in-depth anti-terrorism cooperation with Turkey.

Chavushoglu said that Turkey is also a victim on the issue of counter-terrorism. The Turkish side opposes all forms of terrorism, and also opposes the politicization of counter-terrorism issues, and will strictly abide by the UN Security Council resolutions that identify relevant international terrorist organizations. The Turkish side will not allow anyone to undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
