Food Poisoning Incident at a Restaurant in Japan: 1 Death.
In Japan, 32 individuals suffered from food poisoning after consuming bento boxes from a restaurant located in Shirahama-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, with one elderly man in his 80s tragically succumbing to the illness.
The Wakayama Prefectural Government has determined the cause of death to be food poisoning and has imposed a 10-day suspension on the restaurant.
According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), the Environmental Health Department of the Wakayama Prefectural Government revealed that a total of 51 people consumed bento boxes from a restaurant in the Katada area of Shirahama-cho on August 19 and 20, with 32 individuals subsequently exhibiting symptoms of food poisoning.

Among the 32 affected individuals, an elderly man in his 80s was hospitalized with symptoms including fever and diarrhea two days after consuming the bento box. Unfortunately, he passed away on August 26.
On August 30, the Wakayama Prefectural Government received notice from the hospital regarding the possibility of a collective food poisoning incident. Upon investigation by the local health office, Salmonella bacteria were detected in the deceased individual, leading to the determination of death by food poisoning.
Apart from the deceased gentleman, two others were hospitalized. The Wakayama Prefectural Government has imposed a 10-day suspension on the restaurant.
The Prefectural Government of Wakayama has stated that Salmonella bacteria were found in the deceased, confirming that the man died due to food poisoning. Additionally, two individuals are undergoing treatment for food poisoning. The restaurant will remain closed for 10 days, reopening on September 7.
Health authorities have emphasized that food poisoning caused by Salmonella bacteria typically stems from ingredients such as eggs and meat, urging the public to ensure thorough cooking before consumption.
