What factors cause esophageal cancer and how to prevent from it?

What factors cause esophageal cancer and how to prevent from it?  Are there any precursors to esophageal cancer? what are the symptoms?  What are the manifestations of esophageal cancer?

Can’t esophageal cancer be cured? of course not!

The overall 5-year survival rate of esophageal cancer after surgery or radical radiotherapy and chemotherapy is about 20%. Patients with severe esophageal cancer will generally die within one year. Therefore, esophageal cancer is a very dangerous cancer.

Patients with esophageal cancer usually have two habits when eating. One is that they must eat very hot meals, and the meals are a little bit cold. They like to drink while eating, and they drink almost every day.

1. Causes of esophageal cancer

 1) Eat hot food for a long time

Local inflammation and thermal irritation caused by a long-term hot diet may be a trigger or predisposing factor for the onset of esophageal cancer. Many patients have developed the habit of eating hot meals since they were young, and their esophagus seems to tolerate this kind of hot food. But over time, this kind of damage will show up. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified hot beverages above 65°C as Class 2A carcinogens.

Animal experiments have also confirmed that hot drinks at 65°C to 70°C are enough to burn the throat and may cause esophageal cancer. There is a fragile mucosa in the esophagus. The suitable temperature for eating is 10℃~40℃. Food above 65℃ will scald the mucosa. If you eat hot food for a long time, it will lead to more and more abnormal cells. Many, eventually lead to cancer.

2) Long-term alcoholism

The histological type of esophageal cancer is mainly squamous cell carcinoma. Smoking and alcohol abuse are important factors that cause esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. For esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, the incidence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma increases by 3 to 8 times in smokers and 7 to 50 times in alcoholics. Many patients have long-term alcohol abuse, so his risk of esophageal cancer increases by 7-50 times.

In addition to eating hot food for a long time, and long-term alcohol and smoking,

3) What other factors can increase the risk of esophageal cancer?

  • Pickled products, pickled vegetables or bacon. These foods contain nitrite. Long-term consumption of pickled foods leads to excessive intake of nitrite and is related to the onset of esophageal cancer.
  • Moldy food, whether it is moldy grain, fruit or cooked food, contains Aspergillus flavus, which will increase the risk of cancer.
  • Simple diet, lack of selenium, β-carotene, vitamin E, etc. in the food.
  • Diseases such as genetics, obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, corrosive esophageal burns and stenosis.

2. What are the manifestations of esophageal cancer?

Like many cancers, esophageal cancer does not have any manifestations in the early and early stages. As the disease progresses and worsens, most patients with esophageal cancer will have a foreign body sensation when swallowing food. At the beginning, they will feel uncomfortable when eating harder things. It is difficult to swallow; but eating liquid food and drinking water has no obvious symptoms.

Of course, in the initial stage, not every time I eat, there will be discomforts such as difficulty in swallowing, dysphagia, etc. It often appears intermittently, and sometimes the upper abdomen will feel heartburn, tingling and other discomforts.

As the disease progresses further, the symptoms of esophageal cancer become more and more typical. They start to feel uncomfortable when eating harder foods, and gradually become uncomfortable when eating solid foods. Finally, liquid food or drinking water may also cause swallowing difficulties. In addition, pain in the back of the breastbone or in the shoulder area is often present, and the patient has to take painkillers for a long time.

People are iron rice or steel. Think about it because of esophageal cancer, eating has become a difficult, even painful thing. At the same time, the inability to eat normally brings about the pain of weight loss and severe weight loss. Many patients lose weight and lose weight rapidly due to insufficient nutrition and cancer consumption, and become “luchai sticks”.

Some patients also experience hematemesis or hematochezia, hoarseness, difficulty breathing or hemoptysis, shock, and even death.

3. How to treat? How to prevent it?

The common feature of cancer is that early detection and early treatment have a good prognosis. Very early esophageal cancer can be treated by endoscopy with a good prognosis. The 5-year survival rate after radical treatment is usually greater than 90%.

Early esophageal cancer can be surgically operated, and advanced esophageal cancer can be operated first, followed by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, traditional Chinese medicine treatment, and so on.

The ultimate goal of science popularization is to focus on prevention: quit smoking and drinking, do not eat hot food, do not always eat pickled food, do not eat moldy food. If you have a family history or have an early eating and swallowing discomfort, see a doctor as soon as possible.

In short, many cancers can’t be changed except for genetic factors and geographical factors, and most of them are related to our individual living habits.
