Stem cells treat depression patients

Stem cells treat depression patients

Stem cells treat depression patients. Stem cell therapy has the effects of regulating emotions and anti-depression, and “relieving problems” for depression patients.

Depression ranks first among all psychiatric and neurological diseases. The causes are diverse. Typical symptoms include persistent low mood, loss of pleasure, loss of appetite, attention deficit disorder and poor sleep quality. In severe cases, it is misleading to patients and families. The members caused heavy mental stress.

The current antidepressant treatment methods are far from ideal, and the condition is difficult to alleviate. There is an urgent need for a suitable and effective antidepressant treatment method. The application of stem cells has promoted the development of antidepressant therapy. Stem cell therapy has the effects of regulating mood and antidepressant, which can “solve problems” for patients with depression and become a potentially effective method for intervention in depression.

Stem cells are a type of pluripotent stem cells in the body. They have high self-renewal ability and low immunogenicity. They can participate in neuroimmune regulation and neuronal differentiation and neurotrophic factor secretion in the central nervous system, and repair damaged brain tissue; and It can exert a wide range of immunomodulatory effects, inhibit the inflammatory response of the central nervous system, promote the transformation of microglia into Arglhigh’s anti-inflammatory state, and improve depression symptoms.

Preclinical research: Researchers successfully established depression model mice and implemented stem cell transplantation. After 21 days of transplantation, they tested various indicators of the mice and found that the mice’s sugar water preference, the cumulative immobile time of the tail suspension experiment, and the open-box experiment level The evaluation indicators such as the number of exercises have recovered significantly, and the 5-HT level has increased significantly, which indicates that the depression symptoms of the mice have been well improved.

Foreign scholars use the stress and forced swimming test (FST) to induce depression-like behaviors in rats, establish depression model rats, and then implement stem cell therapy on the model rats. Follow-up finds that the immobility time of FST in rats is significantly reduced, and depressive symptoms are considered The improvement; the positive counts of small albumin neurons increased, and the immunohistochemical indexes improved, indicating that the brain nerve tissue was well repaired.

Clinical study: 60 cases of depression were included in the study, divided into two groups, 30 cases in each of the stem cell group and the control group. The stem cell group was treated with human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells combined with traditional Chinese medicine, and the control group was treated with fluoxetine combined with traditional Chinese medicine. The follow-up was 8 weeks. The evaluation indicators included Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and ELISA (determination of serum IL-1β, IL -6, TNF-α, 5-HT, NE and BDNF levels).

The study found that after 8 weeks of testing, the HAMD score of the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and serum TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 were significantly lower than those of the control group, while 5-HT, NE and BDNF were all significantly higher In the control group, the total effective rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group.

Compared with the observation group before stem cell transplantation, HAMD scores were significantly decreased, serum TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 were significantly decreased, while 5-HT, NE, and BDNF were significantly increased, and evaluation indicators after transplantation were significantly improved. The mechanism may be related to anti-inflammatory, increasing the release of monoamine neurotransmitters, and stimulating the secretion of neurotrophic factors in the brain.
