What should I pay attention to after prostate cancer surgery? What complications will occur after surgery?

Prostate cancer is a relatively serious disease. This disease is usually treated by surgery. However, there may be some sequelae after the operation, and urination problems may occur, such as urinary incontinence, urethral stricture, urine leakage, and kidneys. Problems such as stagnant water will also cause sexual dysfunction, which will cause a lot of bad effects on the body. Therefore, when these sequelae occur, they must be treated and controlled in time.

So what should I pay attention to after prostate cancer surgery? What complications will occur after surgery?

What should I pay attention to after prostate cancer surgery?

First, urinary incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the most terrifying complication after radical prostatectomy. Most patients will not experience permanent urinary incontinence. Even if it occurs, the degree is relatively mild. Incontinence occurs only during vigorous exercise.

There are three factors related to the ability of postoperative urine control. The first is the function of the patient’s sphincter before the operation, and the second is the level of the doctor’s removal of the prostate and reconstruction of the urethra. The third factor is the degree of neurovascular plexus preservation.

The objective standard for no urinary incontinence is: do not use the pad at any time, which is regarded as urinary incontinence; otherwise, it is regarded as urinary incontinence.

Second, male dysfunction

For the classic, non-sparing nerve-sparing retropubic radical resection of prostate cancer, the incidence of postoperative sexual dysfunction is almost 100%. However, even with nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy, about 14.0-88.4% of them have sexual dysfunction after surgery.

Erectile dysfunction after radical prostatectomy may be caused by: nerve and blood vessel damage, neurovascular bundle damage caused by surgery can lead to a decrease in the oxygenation of the smooth muscle of the cavernous body, resulting in a decline or loss of erectile function, and may even cause Cavernous fibrosis and venous closure disorders. However, the preservation of intraoperative neurovascular bundles does not guarantee the recovery of postoperative sexual function.

Third, urethral stricture

Urethral stricture is another complication that affects the normal urination function of patients after radical prostatectomy, including bladder anastomotic stenosis and bladder neck contracture. The incidence rate is 0.48%-32%, and it usually occurs within 1-6 months after surgery.

The incidence of postoperative urethral stricture in patients with smoking, preoperative coronary vascular disease, primary hypertension and diabetes increased significantly. This may cause microvascular disease and ischemia of the anastomosis, which may cause scars during the healing process of the anastomosis. Formation related.

Other complications of radical prostatectomy include venous thrombosis, intraoperative bleeding, rectal and bladder injury, and bladder neck contracture.

Therefore, after radical prostatectomy, various preventions are also needed to prevent the occurrence and appearance of these complications, so that we can live a healthier life.
