BMC: A cup of strong coffee will increase fat burning half hour before exercise
A cup of strong coffee will increase fat burning half hour before exercise. Do you know that drinking coffee can also lose weight?
People who are not fat always say that losing weight is easy, just “stop your mouth and open your legs”. They don’t know that for real fat people, all kinds of attempts, running, exercising, dieting and fasting may not work! On the contrary, it will greatly affect the confidence to lose weight.
Coffee is the most popular beverage in the world. It is estimated that 3 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day in the world. Because it contains a large amount of caffeine, it is often consumed by people to refresh their minds and improve work efficiency. But, did you know that drinking coffee can also lose weight?
Recently, researchers from the University of Granada in Spain published a study titled “Caffeine increases maximal fat oxidation during a graded exercise test: is there a diurnal variation?” , Drinking a cup of strong coffee half an hour before aerobic exercise will significantly increase the fat burning rate. If the exercise is carried out in the afternoon, the effect of caffeine will be more obvious than in the morning.
The study included 15 active men with an average age of 32 who participated in four different aerobic exercises, 7 days apart. The subjects received 3 mg/kg caffeine (equivalent to a cup of espresso) or placebo at 8 am and 5 pm, and took physical exercise half an hour later.
Each subject completed the test in all four cases in a random order. The conditions before each exercise test were strictly standardized, such as the number of hours that elapsed since the last meal, physical exercise or doping, exercise Fat oxidation during the period.
Then, the scientists used a technique called indirect calorimetry to measure the maximum fat oxidation rate (MFO) during exercise and found that all people who had drunk espresso in advance burned more fat.
The study author explained that the results of the study showed that high-concentration caffeine intake 30 minutes before the aerobic exercise test increases the maximum fat oxidation rate during exercise, regardless of any time of the day.
Maximum fat oxidation in the morning and afternoon after ingesting caffeine or placebo
Interestingly, the team also found that the maximum fat oxidation rate and the subjects’ maximum oxygen uptake were significantly higher in the afternoon. Compared with the placebo group, espresso increased MFO by an average of 10.7% in the morning, but increased by an average of 29% in the afternoon.
Because the sample size is so small that it involves active men of the same age, the results cannot be directly inferred to other populations, such as women or sedentary populations. However, the study does prove how this process is affected by the time of a day in a small group of people.
The author pointed out that higher caffeine doses may further promote fat burning, which is also an area that needs further investigation.
All in all, the results of the study show that the combination of acute caffeine intake and moderate-intensity aerobic exercise in the afternoon provides the best solution for people seeking to increase fat burning during physical exercise.
