Aspirin can prevent sugar this damaging the brain and inducing mental illness?

Aspirin can prevent sugar this damaging the brain and inducing mental illness? Science journal: Eating too much sugar can damage the brain and , and aspirin can prevent this damage.

Of the four flavors, sweet, sweet, bitter and spicy, the “sweetness” is suitable for all ages and is the most popular among people. Sugar is a direct source of sweetness. It not only makes food more palatable, it is also an important source of energy for the body.

Sugar is a direct source of sweetness. It not only makes food more palatable, it is also an important source of energy for the body.

In daily life, whether it is milk tea, cakes or cola, all contain a lot of sugar, which gives us a “sweet” feeling. With the gradual improvement of the material standard of living, the consumption of sugar is also increasing rapidly, leading to a soaring obesity rate and the development of dental caries.

Not only that, high-sugar diets can also increase many health risks, including obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, and high blood pressure, etc. It can also accelerate aging and even promote cancer.

Recently, researchers in Japan Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo in Science sub-Journal Science Advances on speech entitled: High-sucrose diets contribute to brain with impaired glucose uptake and psychosis-related higher brain dysfunctions in mice research papers angiopathy.

This study demonstrates the high-sugar diet during puberty induced mental illness-related behavioral phenotypes , including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder , memory loss and insensitive .

In addition, in mice, a high-sugar diet can lead to cerebrovascular disease, impaired glucose intake, and advanced brain dysfunction associated with mental illness.  Taking aspirin can prevent abnormal behavioral phenotypes caused by these high-sugar diets .

Previously, some studies have shown that a high-sugar diet may also cause mental illness.

It is worth noting that the daily sugar intake of adolescents is higher than that of other age groups. However, there are few studies on the impact of high sugar intake during adolescence on future mental health.

Most chronic mental diseases, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder , have their onset due to a complex interaction of multiple genetic and environmental risk factors, and most of them develop before the age of 30.

In this study, the research team first noticed that the sugar consumption of patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is about twice that of healthy people of the same age, and the more sugar consumption of patients with schizophrenia, the more severe the symptoms.

Research model diagram For this, the researchers fed young mice two diets, one is a normal diet, the other is a high-sugar diet, the main carbohydrate is starch or sucrose. After 50 days of feeding, the researchers conducted 8 different behavioral tests on the mice, including motor activity, sound startle response, object position test, and maze behavior.

The research team found that the sucrose-fed mice had significant reductions in object location testing, working memory, and maze behavior. This result indicates that a high sucrose diet can induce a mental illness phenotype in mice .

High-sugar diet and psychosis-related phenotypic analysis studies have shown that advanced glycation end products (AGEs) can induce inflammation and oxidative stress in various tissues, and lead to a positive feedback loop that further increases AGEs.

There is a lot of evidence that patients with mental illness show signs of increased pro-inflammatory cytokines and increased oxidative stress.

Glyoxalase I (GLO1) is a zinc metalloenzyme that protects cells from AGEs. Interestingly, in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, the decrease in GLO1 expression, coupled with the increase in sugar intake, may be the cause of the increased inflammation and oxidative stress observed in these diseases.

Based on this, the research team constructed GLO1 knockout heterozygous mice to verify whether a high-sugar diet can cause mental illness. The researchers found that a high-sugar diet induced microcapillary damage and decreased brain glucose uptake in GLO1 knockout mice.

At the same time, researchers found similar vascular damage in brain samples from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Glo1/+ mice on a high-sugar diet developed vascular disease and impaired glucose transport.

Researchers also found that aspirin , a chronic anti-inflammatory drug , can effectively prevent this vascular disease, enhance brain glucose uptake, and prevent abnormal behavioral phenotypes.

These phenomena indicate that a high-sugar diet may affect the brain’s glucose uptake through GLO1-related metabolic pathways, and cause microcapillary damage and brain dysfunction, and ultimately cause mental illness.

The protective effect of low-dose aspirin on Glo1/+ mice on a high-sugar diet. In summary, this study found that a high-sugar diet, especially a high-sucrose diet, may be one of the culprits leading to a high incidence of mental illness in adolescents.

This result is attributable to the high-sugar diet that leads to brain microcapillary damage and brain dysfunction through metabolic stress, and chronic anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin can prevent the harm caused by high-sugar diets.

This also reminds us that we should pay close attention to the sugar consumption of young people and appropriately reduce the “sweetness” of life, which may help you stay away from mental illness.
